Ed has been serving Mead Township as a trustee since 1996. Throughout the years he and the various Boards of Trustees he has served with have been very active in procuring outside funding for the township. Ohio Public Works Issue I and II, Community Development Block Grant, numerous FEMA awards, Ohio Nature Works, Belmont County Tourism, JB Green Team, ODOT signage, and OTARMA MORE grants are just a few examples.   

Ed led the effort with the Board of Trustees in 2001 to create the Mead Township Park District. A separate entity of the township by statute, the park district continues to thrive today..

In 2012, Ed spearheaded the effort to create the O.R.&W. Fire District. This ballot initiative effort brought stakeholders from the Village of Shadyside, the Shadyside Volunteer Fire Department and the Mead Township Volunteer Fire Department together to successfully create the District providing full time coverage for all residents of Mead Township. He served as the founding member Chairman of the Board. 

Ed has provided testimony for and on behalf of Mead Township in field congressional hearings, State House Committee hearings, US. EPA Hearings in Washington DC, Pittsburgh, Columbus and field hearings in Mead township. He also has successfully provided testimony in the arrest, conviction and remedy of illegal dumping in the township.

He is a 2005 Graduate of the Ohio Township Association Leadership Academy and currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Ohio Township Association. The OTA represents over 1,300 townships and 5,200 trustees and fiscal officers across Ohio.

Ed currently serves as the Belmont County Township Association Executive Committee Person and is also the Belmont County Health District Advisory Committee Secretary.

Ed has been married to his wife Dianne (Marling) of Shadyside for over 33 years and they have three children and two grandchildren.

Paul M. “Matt” Merryman has been serving as your Mead Township Trustee since 2018, and currently serves as Vice-Chairman. Matt has been a lifelong resident of Shadyside and Mead Township where he graduated from Shadyside High School in 1985.  He also graduated from Ohio University in Athens, Ohio after pursuing his Bachelor’s Degree in Education. 

Matt is a 29 year employee of Shadyside Local Schools. He currently has his Master’s Degree in Education and teaches Social Studies. He has served as a mentor, SEA Vice-President, and assistant varsity track and field coach. He has served on nearly every committee the school has offered, and is currently serving on the District Leadership Team. He is a past member of the Shadyside Athletic Boosters where he served as Trustee, Treasurer, and President. He enjoys helping the students of the district in whatever capacity he can.

In addition to his work on the Mead Township Board of Trustees, he also serves the Township as a member of the OR&W Fire Board, where he is active in helping the Board bring the department further into full-time status, attending to financial matters, and helping to create policies and procedures to better the operation of the station.  He enjoys answering and solving resident’s concerns in both capacities, and getting out into the township to meet people.

Matt has helped coordinate the grant-based debris removal programs for the Township’s watersheds through the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services office in St. Clairsville.  He has participated in FEMA site inspections throughout the Township. Matt frequently does inclement weather road inspections in conjunction with the Superintendent of Shadyside Local Schools. You may have seen him out in the Township helping plow when the weather gets bad. 

Matt enjoys being outdoors, as well kayaking, fishing, traveling, and spending time with his family. He is married to his high school sweetheart, Mariann Petronek of Shadyside and they have three sons. Matt is also a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Shadyside.

Clyde Hammond, Trustee

Clyde Hammond is a lifelong resident of Mead Township and a graduate of Shadyside High School. He is
co-owner of LMS Construction and has been a member of Operating Engineers Local 18 for over 30
years. He also raises beef cattle on his family farm.

He was elected Trustee in November 2021 and looks forward to working with the people of the township and the other trustees to make this township a wonderful place to live and raise families. He brings a wealth of knowledge from his many years of construction experience and road expertise to the township. He and his wife Kathy have been married 39 years and have 3 children and 3 grandchildren.
